Do you know Lisa Bass of Farmhouse on Boone?

If you’re in the homemaking niche of the blogging or YouTube world, I’m sure you do.

But, if you don’t know her, let me do a little introduction.

Lisa is the mother of 8 kids, is married, and lives in a little farmhouse in Missouri.

She has a homestead with chickens and a cow at one point, a nice garden, and all the wonderful things with country living.

She is known mostly for her sough dough recipes, and from-scratch food, but also has homemade projects, like sewing, as well.

She’s been blogging for several years and has been on YouTube for just about as long.

Affiliate links may be used in this post and if so I will receive a commission at no extra cost to you. I’m also part of the Amazon Affiliate (Associate) program where I earn a commission from sales made through my affiliate links. Read the full disclosure policy.

She’s been able to bring her husband home to the business and they both work it full-time now.

I don’t know if she inspired her sisters to blog and vlog but she has two sisters that do the same (and I love their blog/vlogs too!).

Lisa is very smart when it comes to making money online and you’d be wise to learn from her.

Affiliate disclosure: it’s important to note that the links to her courses are affiliate links which just means if you purchase via my special link I’ll make a small commission at no extra cost to you.

While she does have a few YouTube videos on the topic, and a free masterclass, she does most of her teaching via her course called Create Your Blog Dream

I’m a student of hers and have found so much value in her course.

It’s packed full of all the info a beginner would need to make a successful blogging career.

She also has a YouTube/video course that teaches you how to be successful there.

What I love about Lisa and her business is that she has built a solid business out of a blog.

Meaning, it isn’t just a blog.

The blog is the foundation of her business.

And from the blog, YouTube was born, social media was born, her courses, and her FB groups were born, her affiliate partnerships and sponsored content was born, and the dream of her husband coming home was realized.

It’s what I want to model my business on.

She has quality content.

You can tell she gives her all but her business doesn’t rule her life.

I really respect her, if you can’t tell.

So, let’s have a look inside the course!

Module One: Creating a Brand from Scratch

This section is the foundation of your new blogging business and one that you’ll find great value in. You’ll want to spend time here and not rush through it. Setting up your blogging business right from the start is the best way to go.

In this section:

  • narrowing your niche
  • understanding your audience
  • knowing your brand
  • and more

Narrowing down your niche, and understanding your audience, will go a long way in the success of your business and your brand.

It’s something I did not do with my current parenting blog (I hadn’t yet taken this course when I started it) and wish I had but something I will do with any other blogs/sites/channels moving forward.

Module 2: Setting up your Blog

This section is crucial to your blogging success. Choosing the right platform, a good theme, and adding plugins, etc will get you off to the right start.

In this section:

  • choosing a blog platform
  • picking your hosting
  • choosing a theme for your blog
  • deciding on plugins
  • and more

Although I personally knew the information in this section, I still watched it and was pleased to find that I had set everything up correctly.

Module 3: Elements of a Good Blog Post

Blogging isn’t just about putting some words up on the screen and hoping people will find you and read your article. Those days are long gone.

You need to be strategic and incorporate SEO into your content as well. (No SEO is not dead!)

In this section, Lisa goes over important topics like photography, SEO, blog post checklist, choosing keywords, and more!

She also offers a blog post checklist PDF, which is fantastic even for more established bloggers as it can be hard to remember it all just off the top of your head.

Module 4: Grow Your Blog with Social Media

Pinterest can be a powerful tool for your blog. My main Pinterest account has sent upwards of 7k visitors to my blog in a months time.

Don’t sleep on Pinterest! It’s a powerful tool, especially for new blogs.

In this section:

  • all about Pinterest
  • FB for your blog
  • getting started with IG
  • making a reel from repurposed content

I’m actually going to go back through this section to brush up on the IG and FB talk as I know I need to do at least one social media channel in addition to Pinterest.

Module 5: The Importance of Email Marketing

This section is one you should not skip. They say content is King but I’d go ever further to suggest that emailed content is actually the King.

You don’t own the content on IG or FB or TikTok. Shoot, you may own the content on your blog but we’re relying on Google and Pinterest to send us the traffic to our blogs to keep that content making us money.

In the end, you really only own your list.

Once you have that person on your mailing list, they’re yours.

You can email them as little or as often as you’d like.

You can talk to them from the heart, you can sell to them, you can encourage them, make friends with them, and build a loyal fan base or customer base. And, so long as you pay your bill every month (lol), you own that list!

In this section:

  • the importance of email marketing
  • email list providers
  • growing your list
  • creating a good subject line
  • creating a landing page
  • and much more!

Do you use a mailing list? I’d love to know which company you use to host it.

Oh, before we move on, check out the video below where Lisa talks about her husband’s last day working and how he was able to quit his job and come home.

Module 6: Monetization

I’ll admit it, I skimmed over the other sections when I first started watching the videos so that I could learn more about how to monetize my blog.

Money, money, money! Money!

Every section of the course is valuable but, you know, when you’re pouring your soul into something and not being paid, you kinda like seeing dollar signs in your eyes.

In this section:

  • affiliate marketing
  • a speak behind the scenes
  • brand sponsorships
  • media kit
  • ads on your blog
  • and more

Module 7: Planning Content and Staying Motivated

THIS is the section you do not want to miss as I believe this is what elevated Lisa’s business so quickly and will for you, too.

Planning your content will take your blogging business from a hobby status to a serious business. I don’t mean to say you aren’t a real business without planning content, but I do mean to say that I believe planning your content is what will take your blog from here to there more quickly.

In addition to planning your blog’s content, you also need to remain motivated, as blogging is a long game and not a get-rich-quick scheme.

In this section:

  • How often to post
  • creating a content plan
  • staying motivated
  • and free pdf downloads

Module 8: Incorporating Video

I’ll admit, this is the section that I was least interested in only because I’d rather stay behind the scenes and not out front with video but let’s face it, video is here to stay.

I don’t think you NEED video in order to have a successful blogging business but I do think it could help.

I have a chronic illness and making the time and putting in the effort for video for my blog would be a lot. It is very difficult for me to show up in professional videos week after week consistently.

However, when I’m ready to, I’m going to rewatch this section and learn from one of the best.

Lisa has over half a million YouTube subscribers and shows up weekly with professional yet approachable videos on homemaking and made-from-scratch food.

In this section:

  • importance of video
  • the power of video
  • editing without an assistant
  • how to edit in imovie
  • and much more!

I invest yearly in my education with blogging or passive income courses and invest in my business with tools such as Keysearch, Canva, PicMonkey, good hosting with BigScoots, and more.

In this section:

  • ways to continue growing your blogging journey
  • keyword finder demo
  • thrive leads demo
  • and more

My Final Thoughts

Ultimately, I think I’ve learned the most from Lisa is to have a well-rounded business. Don’t just have a blog. Don’t just see yourself as a blogger. You’re a business owner. I’m a business owner.

Think about ways to make multiple streams of income.

How can you have multiple sources of traffic?

Consider all the methods of speaking to your audience:

  • mailing list
  • social media
  • pinterest
  • blog
  • video
