Snake Craft for Toddlers
One of the best things about this craft is how simple and mess-free it is—perfect for little hands that love to stay busy!
There’s no paint or complicated steps involved, so toddlers and preschoolers can easily make a whole bunch of snakes all on their own (with a little help, of course).
Using construction paper means they can choose from lots of bright, fun colors to make each snake unique.
And when you bring out the markers or crayons, the decorating possibilities are endless—stripes, spots, smiley faces, and even tiny hats if they’re feeling extra creative!
It’s the kind of craft that keeps them happily entertained without the cleanup stress.

Supplies:
- Construction paper
- Elmer’s glue
- Googly eyes (or just draw the eyes)
- Kid-safe scissors
- Markers and/or crayons
- Stickers (optional)
Steps to Take
Cut the snake the length of the construction paper. I cut the snake shape 1 1/2 inches in width. You can have fun making fat snakes or skinny snakes, short or long snakes. It’s totally up to you!
You’ll cut both ends the same, but then blunt cut one straight across to make a nose. The longer, skinnier end will be the tail.

Color the snake however you’d like; let your imagination run wild. This is one of the most fun parts of making the snakes, so let your littles do whatever they’d like with their designs.

Add googly eyes with glue to the end of the snake with the flat nose.
Get a different color for the tongue. Cut long enough to stick out from the mouth and cut into the paper so it creates a fork-like design to mimic a snake tongue. Glue it to the under side of the snake.

Add dots to the nose, eyelashes to the eyes, and any other details you’d like. Then just repeat the process and make as many snakes as your heart desires.

Final Thoughts
This construction paper snake craft is such a fun and simple way to keep toddlers and preschoolers entertained while encouraging creativity and fine motor skills.
It’s colorful, easy to set up, and totally mess-free—what more could you ask for? Whether you’re doing it at home, in a classroom, or even at a playdate, this is a go-to activity that little ones will love.
Tips for a Smooth Craft Time:
- Pre-cut some of the paper strips ahead of time if you’re working with younger toddlers to make things even easier.
- Add a bit of double-sided tape instead of glue for less drying time and faster snake play!
- Let kids name their snakes and even make little “homes” or habitats out of boxes or more paper to extend the fun.
