Love Notes for Kids From Parents

In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to forget to say the mushy stuff.

Love notes cut through the chaos.

They’re a tangible piece of your love that your kiddos can hold onto.

And let’s be real, it feels pretty awesome to know you’re loved enough for someone to put it down on paper.

Plus, it’s a bit of a mood lifter.

Picture your kiddo finding a note in their lunchbox at school – instant grin.

Or stumbling upon one under their pillow – cue the warm fuzzies.

It’s like a surprise hug in written form.

Not to mention, it’s a way to teach them about expressing emotions.

You’re setting the example that it’s cool to say “I love you” and share your feelings.

In a world that can be a bit rough, your love notes are like a safety net of warmth and affirmation.

So, why should you give your kids love notes?

Because love isn’t just a feeling; it’s something you show.

And a scribbled note with a heart doodle is a pretty awesome way to do just that.

DIY Love Notes for Kids

Making note notes for kids is pretty easy, really.

You just need a few materials, some sweet words to say, and the time to write it out and place it in a lunch box, on their pillow, or maybe on their mirror.

To make it an easy process, I’m breaking down the steps below.

1- Grab Paper or Sticky Notes

Once you have your special messages ready, grab slips of paper, sticky notes, and brightly colored pens or markers, and write out your special messages to your little ones.

I love these sticky notes, as there are many different colors to pick from. They are bright and happy and the perfect size.

And how fun is this marker and pattern set for decorating the sticky notes?!

I like these colored ink gel pens for writing notes.

2- Grab These Love Notes Prompts

Use the following prompts as inspiration. Simply fill in the blanks to make it personal.

  1. “I love you because…”
  2. “One thing I admire about you is…”
  3. “Remember when we…”
  4. “You make me smile when…”
  5. “My favorite thing we do together is…”
  6. “You are special to me because…”
  7. “You brighten my day when…”
  8. “I’m proud of you for…”
  9. “You’re my favorite adventure buddy because…”
  10. “Thank you for…”
  11. “You are awesome because…”
  12. “My day is better with you because…”
  13. “I’m grateful for…”
  14. “I love your creativity when…”
  15. “You’re amazing at…”
  16. “You make our family special by…”
  17. “You’re my little helper when…”
  18. “I cherish the moments we spend…”
  19. “You’re the best at making me laugh when…”
  20. “I love your kindness when…”

3- Where to Leave the Notes

  1. In their lunchbox: Slip a note inside their lunchbox or lunch bag. It’s a lovely surprise for them to discover during lunchtime.
  2. On their pillow: Place the note on their pillow before they go to bed. It’s a sweet way to end their day on a positive note and start the next one with love.
  3. Inside their backpack: Tuck the note into a pocket or a compartment in their backpack. They’ll find it when they’re getting ready for school or an outing.
  4. On the bathroom mirror: Use a dry erase marker or a sticky note to leave a message on the bathroom mirror. They’ll see it first thing in the morning or before bedtime.
  5. Under their bedroom door: Slide the note under their bedroom door for them to find when they wake up or come home.
  6. In their favorite book: Place the note inside the pages of their favorite book. It’s a delightful surprise when they open it to read.
  7. On the fridge: Stick the note on the refrigerator door with a magnet. It’s a prominent spot where they’re sure to see it multiple times a day.
  8. In their coat pocket: Slip the note into their coat pocket before they head out. They’ll find it when they put on their coat later.
  9. On their desk or study area: Place the note on their desk or study area where they do homework or creative activities.
  10. In their room: Simply leave the note on their bedside table or any spot where they often spend time in their room.

4- When to Leave a Love Note

  1. Before a big event: Offer encouragement and support before a school presentation, sports game, or any other significant event in their life.
  2. On their birthday: Take the opportunity to celebrate their special day with a heartfelt message that reflects on their growth and the joy they bring to your life.
  3. After a challenging day: Lift their spirits after a tough day at school or during a difficult time by reminding them of your love and resilience.
  4. Randomly, just because: Surprise them with a love note on any ordinary day to show that you’re thinking of them and that they’re always in your heart.
  5. During milestones: Whether it’s the first day of school, a graduation, or any other milestone moment, mark the occasion with a note that reflects on their achievements and the journey ahead.
  6. On holidays: Use holidays like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or any other family celebration as an opportunity to express your love through a thoughtful note.
  7. Before bedtime: Create a comforting bedtime routine by ending the day with a note that assures them of your love and fills them with warmth as they drift off to sleep.
  8. When they need a pick-me-up: If they’re feeling down or discouraged, a love note can be a powerful reminder of your unwavering support and belief in them.

5- Add Affirmations with the Notes

Why not add a few affirmations here and there for your wee little ones? Not only is it wonderful to tell your child you love them and think they’re special but slipping in even more affirmations they can think on is a beautiful bonus to get them started with believing the best of themselves.

You can keep the affirmations as they are or change it to “You are loved” “You are capable” ” You are unique” etc.

  1. “I am loved just the way I am.”
  2. “I am capable of achieving anything I set my mind to.”
  3. “I am unique and special, and that makes me wonderful.”
  4. “I am strong, brave, and resilient.”
  5. “I am kind and compassionate, and I make a positive difference in the world.”
  6. “I am worthy of love and respect.”
  7. “I am smart, curious, and eager to learn.”
  8. “I am surrounded by people who care about me and support me.”
  9. “I am in control of my own happiness and can choose to see the good in every situation.”
  10. “I am enough, just as I am.”

Create a Memory Jar

Creating a Memory Jar is a wonderful way to capture and cherish precious moments with your child throughout the year.

This simple yet meaningful activity fosters gratitude and reflection while strengthening your bond.

Here’s how to make the most of it:

  1. Start by finding a jar or container that you and your child can decorate together, making it uniquely yours.

2. Keep small pieces of paper and pens nearby so you can easily jot down moments of joy, gratitude, or special events as they happen.

3. Encourage your child to contribute their own notes, whether it’s a funny joke they heard, a new skill they mastered, or a kind gesture from a friend.

As the jar fills up over time, set aside a special moment at the end of the year to read through the notes together.

Relive the happy memories, laugh at the funny moments, and reflect on the challenges you overcame as a team.

Discuss how much you’ve grown and all the wonderful experiences you’ve shared, strengthening your connection and creating a sense of gratitude for the journey you’ve taken together.

By creating a Memory Jar, you’re not only capturing fleeting moments but also building a treasure trove of shared memories that will be cherished for years to come.
